"Cherepovetsles" is acknowledged as one of the leaders of "Ecological rating of timber-processing industry of the Russian Federation"
The project was prepared on the initiative of the World Wild nature fund (WWF) and was introduced in Russia for the first time by "Expert RA" rating agency.
The main aim of the project is to develop an independent system of criteria, that will allow to give an objective estimation to the efficiency of nature protection by companies of timber-processing industry.

"Cherepovetsles" expands its marketing outlets. Trial lot of coniferous sawntimber is delivered to Japan.
The buyer is "Maeda Mokuzai Co. Ltd", the distributor of sawntimber production on territory of Japan. They are planning to use it in housing construction.

The Agreement for delivery of the second portion of drying kilns to the sawmill of "Belozersky LPH" has been signed by representatives of "Cherepovetsles" at the exhibition "Ligna + 2003" (Hannover).
Austrian company "Muhlbock" will supply the equipment. According to the Agreement, four chambers with total capacity of 652 m3 will start to operate in September — October, 2003. As a result, all volume of sawntimber produced at the sawmill will be dried.

"Cherepovetsles" has started navigation 2003. The first vessels with timber left for Finland today from the ports of Belozersky and Vashkinsky timber logging companies.
The company is planning to export 615 thousand m3 of timber: 460 thousand m3 to Sweden and 155 thousand m3 to Finland.

The governor of the Vologda region Vyacheslav Pozgalev has visited sawmill and felling sites of "Belozersky LPH".
During this visit Mr.Pozgalev collected materials for a speech he will take at the meeting of the heads of North-Western federal district subjects to be chaired by the President of the Russian Federation. According to the Governor, one of the questions for discussion on April 11, 2003 will be development of timber industry of Russia. To solve this issue correctly, "it is very important to listen to people which are directly engaged in timber industry".

"Cherepovetsles" has successfully passed the environmental audit organized by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Audit was prepared by JP Management Consulting's experts together with a local expert from Vologda. The study was carried out in December 2002-January 2003. The report is based on information collected during visits to operation units of Belozersky timber logging company.
The audit deals with the core business units: felling and sawing of timber. The auditors checked facility operations compliance with national and relevant international environmental standards. The audit addressed the issues related to possible soil and ground water contamination, waste management, air emissions, handling of hazardous chemicals, fire prevention, occupational health and safety issues and etc.. During the visit the auditors had meetings also with the representatives of the Vologda region authorities.

The seminar "Customs control in sawntimber export" has taken place today on the basis of Belozersky sawmill.
The seminar was organized and financed by "Cherepovetsles". According to General Director Valery Pissarev, the aim is to avoid some problems which are constantly being faced during registration of customs documents for sawntimber export.

In February 152,5 thousand m3 of timber, that makes 100% of planned volume, were felled at the enterprises of "Cherepovetsles"
The leader among timber logging companies is Belozersky timber logging company — 72,5 thousand m3. All enterprises have increased an output of round timber products — 110 thousand m3 per, 13% more in comparison with the planned volume.

An agreement on the opening of Timberjack servicing center on the basis of "Belozerskles" was signed in Cherepovets today. New enterprise is called "Timberjack-Belozersk".
The project idea appeared last year. In November the parties have entered the corresponding agreement and the document has passed legal examination.
Erkki Enkola, the head Timberjack's branch in St. Petersburg, said, that after today’s signing "daily routine work concerning organization of staff's training, deliveries of spare parts and solution of technical problems" will start.

Today "Belozerskles" has shipped the first cargo of new products — Blanks of trays for baking bread produced from aspen veneer sheets.
These blanks are popular in Europe where their ecological qualities are highly appreciated. Aspen trays are used not only for baking, but also for storage of various provisions.
Production started two months ago. Unfortunately, production was temporarily stopped during hard frost, as imported machinery could not operate at low temperatures.

In 2002 "Cherepovetsles" has increased production output by 41 % in comparison with 2001.

General director of "Cherepovetsles" Valery Pissarev and director of "Belozersky LPH" Anatoly Pozdnyakov were included in the list of "1000 most professional managers of Russia".
The rating was published in the newspaper "Commersant" on the eve of the New Year. The best managers were chosen by specially organized group consisting of the heads and representatives of the leading Russian companies, representatives of federal and regional authorities, business associations, public organizations and mass-media.
